BERTJAN POT
PLAIN WEAVE TAPE CARPET
MATERIALS: Woven Cotton Tape
DIMENSIONS: 158"L X 79"W
Broad woven tapes are woven together to become part of a bigger weave. The Shakers would use this to make webbing for chairs, but scaled up it becomes a colorful carpet.
SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE SCARF
MATERIALS: Woven Tapestry
There is a really interesting theme in the shaker textiles: How to be colourful and decorative without making embellishments. Very often they simply chose smart colours for the fibers that were already going to use within the textile anyway to create patterns or a decorative edge. In the shake-shake-shake scarf the dazzling tv-static texture comes from weaving multiple coloured twisted yarns, an effect that can also be seen in shaker carpets, towels and scarfs.

Bertjan Pot is a designer, probably best known for his Random Light (1999). The light started as a material research, which is basically the starting point of each product created by Studio Bertjan Pot. The outcome is usually an interior product showing a fascination for techniques, structures, patterns and colors. Most experiments start quite impulsively by a certain curiosity for how things would function or how something would look. From there, Pot takes on challenges with manufacturers to explore possibilities and push the boundaries a bit. The reward for each challenge is a new one.
